Top 5 Doodle Mix Dogs: The Ultimate Furry Friends!
April 16, 2024

Hello, dog enthusiasts! If you’re charmed by the mix of intelligence, adorable looks, and friendly temperament, then the world of doodle mix dogs is for you. Let’s start with a bit of history: the term “doodle” refers to any dog breed mixed with a poodle, aiming to blend the poodle’s low-shedding coat with the desirable traits of another breed. This trend kicked off in the late 1980s with the creation of the Labradoodle, designed to be a hypoallergenic guide dog. This marked the beginning of the doodle craze that continues to grow!
Here are the 5 top doodle designer mixes.

Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever + Poodle)
Combining the Labrador Retriever’s sociable nature with the poodle’s hypoallergenic coat, Labradoodles are ideal for both families and active individuals. They’re intelligent and easy to train.
-
Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever + Poodle)
Goldendoodles bring together the gentle disposition of Golden Retrievers with the poodle’s low-shedding curls. They are affectionate and excel in households with children. Many Goldendoodles are trained as service or therapy dogs. The friendly, eager-to-please nature of the Golden Retriever combined with the intelligence and low shedding quality of the Poodle can make the perfect service or therapy dog. “Molly, our Goldendoodle, brightens every day with her playful spirit and loving nature,” says a delighted owner.
-
Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel + Poodle)
As one of the earliest doodle breeds, Cockapoos are well-suited for smaller living spaces, offering the warmth and loyalty of Cocker Spaniels and the intelligence of poodles.
-
Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog + Poodle)
Bernedoodles combine the Bernese Mountain Dog’s laid-back silly charm with the poodle’s cleverness. They are known for being playful yet relaxed. A standard poodle and Bernese Mountain dog can make for a very large doodle. “Our Bernedoodle, Theo, loves his playtime as much as lounging around the house with us,” an owner explains.
-
Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd + Poodle)
Aussiedoodles are a vibrant mix, blending the Australian Shepherd’s energy and intelligence with the poodle’s coat and brains. They thrive in active environments and are superb with agility training. They are often referred to as “The Einstein of Mixed Breeds. “Max is an Aussiedoodle who never runs out of energy. He’s quick to learn tricks and always up for adventure,” says an owner.
Why the Doodle Craze?

Doodle mixes are popular for their hypoallergenic coats, which are a boon for allergy sufferers, and their blended characteristics of intelligence, friendliness, and adaptability, making them ideal companions in diverse living situations. Not all doodles are hypoallergenic however. The first generation of doodle (50% Poodle) is not always non shedding. It is usually in the second generation that doodles are low to non shedding.
Is There a Particular Look?
Indeed, many are drawn to the unique appearance of doodles—those enchanting curls or wavy fur! They have “furnishings” making their faces resemble that of a Teddy Bear. Doodle breeds range widely in size, from small Yorkipoos to large Bernedoodles, accommodating almost any living situation and lifestyle. Although requiring regular clips and grooming, most owners prefer the six week grooming appointments to the daily shedding.
Whether you’re an active individual seeking a companion for your adventures, or a family in need of a gentle pet, there’s a doodle mix that’s perfect for you. Are you ready to find your next furry family member in the wonderful world of doodles?
At Doodle Patch Farm we breed Aussiedoodles, Goldendoodles and will soon be breeding Bernedoodles. We also breed AKC Registered Golden Retrievers because we adore the breed and would like to continue to develop our own line of “perfect Golden Retrievers.”

We have three Doodle litters arriving soon – ready for pick up in early and late June
Next month (early and late May 2024) we will have a litter of mini Aussiedoodles (30 pounds and under), a litter of Standard Aussiedoodles (over 50 pounds), and a litter of mini Goldendoodles (15-20 pounds). The previous litters of Aussiedoodle pups have demonstrated high intelligence and trainability. The Goldendoodle pups will be a first litter for Ivy and Alfie. Both parents are very smart, active and cuddly. So the puppies from this pairing are likely to be little cuddly happy dynamos who love to fetch!

Because I am a school teacher, I would love to have a therapy dog in my classroom. I have seen the power of a dog to calm and comfort children. I have had students with severe pet allergies, so a doodle could be the perfect classroom “counselor.” Perhaps one of the puppies from the litters we’re expecting could be in my classroom this year. Since we start all our puppies with a specific curriculum for brain development, confidence, and socialization; and we also temperament test, I may find my perfect furry “student” to add to my classroom.
