The First Meal for River and Jett’s Puppy Bowl Litter
March 6, 2025
River and Jett’s nine standard size F1 Aussiedoodle puppies are exploring the world. Although their vision isn’t as clear as it will be, they can see objects and shapes and hear sounds. They have graduated from the neonatal stage (0-2 weeks) to the transitional stage (3-4 weeks) and now to the socialization stage. The puppies are vocalizing, playing, and as of yesterday, eating solid food.

Important Stages of Development to be Aware of
I love this stage. The puppies are curious, playful, and show no fear. When I sit in the whelping pen, they crawl onto my lap, exploring this mountain of a human. New toys bring them scrambling to investigate. Gradual desensitization begins at this time so that when puppies are older, many loud noises and experiences will be familiar. Although their personalities haven’t emerged yet, we can observe differences in activity levels. Around 7-8 weeks we can see personality traits bud. Some pups will exhibit assertiveness, stubbornness, confidence, submissiveness or other traits. Understanding a puppy’s personality always helps with the training process and helps match a puppy to a new owner. While we do our best to help each new owner find the puppy that fits their lifestyle, sometimes puppies, like people, develop quirks or idiosyncrasies. Consistent training over time can overcome most challenges your puppy presents.

Discovery, Exploration, and Growth
Puppies develop so quickly. Each day is a new discovery for the puppies and for us as we observe their activity and exploration. And although this stage is exciting, it is also very messy. Pups slog through their slurry as they eat. They’re pottying much more frequently and are usually (though not always) successful in eliminating in a separate area. There is constant cleaning.
Take home day for other puppies claiming their new homes.
Feed – Clean – Feed – Clean – Feed again
Busy days filled with feedings and cleaning round the clock. It will all be worth it when each new family is matched to the puppy they’ve been waiting for. It’s like the final piece of the puzzle falling into place. New puppy owners picture all the adventures, the cuddles, and the memories they’re about to make together, and suddenly, life feels even more exciting and complete. Each puppy’s home is about to be filled with new energy, new joy, and endless love.
From our home to yours: “Happiness is a warm puppy.”
