Why We Don’t Use the Phrase ‘Puppy for Sale’—and What We Say Instead
July 20, 2025
At Doodle Patch Farm, you might notice something different: we never refer to our puppies as being “for sale.” While it may seem like a small detail, the words we use reflect something much deeper—our values, our purpose, and the way we care for the dogs entrusted to us.
In this post, we’ll explain why we’ve chosen not to use sales-based language—and what we say instead when inviting families to welcome one of our beloved puppies into their lives.

Words Matter—Especially When It Comes to Living Beings
The phrase “puppy for sale” is common on the internet. But to us, it sounds transactional—like a commodity exchange. Our puppies are not products. They are living, breathing companions who’ve been nurtured with love, care, and purpose from the moment they were born.
Each puppy is:
-
Raised with a focus on early socialization and healthy development
-
Matched thoughtfully with a family whose lifestyle and expectations are a good fit
-
Sent home with support, education, and a continued relationship with us

What We Say Instead: “Bringing Home a Puppy” or “Reserving a Spot on Our Pick List”
Rather than framing puppy adoption as a sale, we talk about:
-
“Bringing a puppy into your family”
-
“Joining our Pick list on a current or anticipated litter”
-
“Welcoming a new family member”
-
“Reserving a puppy from our upcoming litter”
These phrases reflect the commitment and emotional investment that goes into this process—for both our family and your family. When someone fills out our Puppy Application, many times Patty will give them a call on the phone to discuss what they are looking for. Based on that discussion she makes recommendations.
A Relationship, Not a Transaction
When you bring home a puppy from Doodle Patch Farm, you’re not just making a purchase. You’re beginning a relationship—with your dog, and with us.
We stay in touch with our puppy families, provide guidance as your puppy grows, and cheer along your journey as your puppy becomes a beloved companion. This ongoing connection is why we often refer to our extended puppy families as part of our Doodle Patch Farm Family.
The Heart Behind What We Do
We breed puppies, but what drives us isn’t the business of breeding—it’s the joy of raising well-loved puppies who are healthy, confident, and ready to thrive in their new homes and with their new families.
That’s why we:
-
Health test our parent dogs and raise puppies in a home-based environment
-
Focus on age appropriate early training, and socialization
-
Take time to get to know our future puppy families before matching
Final Thoughts
You won’t find a flashy “Buy Now” button on our site. And that’s intentional.
If you’re looking to reserve a future Goldendoodle, Aussiedoodle, or Golden Retriever puppy, we’d love to start a conversation. Our pick list is how we thoughtfully match families with puppies, and we’re here to answer any questions along the way.
At Doodle Patch Farm, we don’t just place puppies—we place heartbeats into homes.
